Here are two almudos who have managed to escape from a life of begging solely due to their strong motivation to get an education. There are many others but these two have demonstrated outstanding determination to make a better life for themselves and their families. Neither of them was able to start school until nearly in his teens but both have skipped several grades and are at or near the top of their classes. Neither spoke English before attending school but both are fluent now. Primary school in The Gambia is not very expensive but as they have moved into high school it has become much more costly. Both boys live and attend school in The Gambia, in the urban area known as Serrekunda, near Banjul.

Momodou (pr. Momodoo) and Idi ( pr. Eedee): Both are former almudos who have been in school for several years now. Both are now in high school. Idi is in Grade 11 and Momodou is in Grade 12. Their parents live in remote villages so all their living costs must be met in addition to their school expenses. They stay together in rented accommodation in Serrekunda. Currently their expenses are $50 per month each.
    Sponsorship

These boys are very worthy of support. Despite delayed commencement, extreme poverty, considerable parental prejudice against western education and no fluency in English (the language of classroom instruction in The Gambia) they have overcome these obstacles and succeeded. Their only hindrance is financial. Any support you can provide will be appreciated, a single gift or a monthly payment. Should you decide to contribute towards the education of one or more of these children, I will provide you with more information and put you into direct communication (via e-mail) with the kids themselves. They are all online and you can expect regular communications as a result of your sponsorship. If you visit The Gambia, they will be happy to introduce you to their country.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to inquire further.
