Buenos Aires
by Leon Goldstein, Gonzalo Monterroso, Sonia Passio

The most representative picture postcards of the capital city of the country. The photographs are arranged in the order of the various tour circuits the visitor may follow. From the port - Puerto Madero and Catalinas, Retiro - the political and commercial center is visited, a walk through San Telmo to visit Plaza Dorrego and the antique shops, moves on to the Boca, on to the Riachuelo and return to the elegant neighborhoods of Recoleta and Palermo where the Rosedal rose garden in Tres de Febrero Park will be admired, to end up placing a bet on the horses of the race track, watching a polo match, cheering in a one of the more traditional soccer stadiums (River Plate or Boca Juniors). The hours of darkness are reserved for the Tango, for eating in traditional restaurants where the barbecue is in full view, or for a cultural evening in the Colon Theatre.

It is all in the book for the visitor to recall or share the city's attractions with friends or relatives who have not been to this European city on the banks of the River Plate. Gonzalo Monterroso's texts set the postcards in their epoch and help us to understand PorteƱos, the natives of Buenos Aires. In a pleasing style, with many a wink and hint at secrets known only to the initiated, the text nicely complements the illustrations.

Touring Argentina: Misiones
by Stefano Nicolini, Gonzalo Monterroso

Where three countries meet at the "triple frontier" (Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina), South America's most famous waterfalls are located. Iguazu falls will astonish anyone who is fortunate enough to visit them. A magnificent canyon in the rain forest drew the admiration of the pre Columbian people and the Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors in the XVIth century. The Jesuit Order found that the region was the most favorable to carry out their plans to colonize and evangelize peacefully. In all three countries they left magnificent testimony of their success - churches built by the natives housing wooden carvings in the western tradition but with Guarani taste and methods, symbols of Catholicism. This book manages to synthesize the various attractions of the region. Scenery and history are melded to capture the beauty of its land.

Patagonia: The Last Wilderness
by Axel Bos, Daniel Rivademar (Photographer)

Endless stretches of rugged coastline, spectacular ranges of snow- capped mountains, starkly beautiful plains - these are the images that "Patagonia" evokes. This remote region at the southernmost tip of the Americas is one of the last areas of true wilderness left in the world. Here at last is a book that captures the unique character of this part of the planet. Over 120 striking photos convey the haunting beauty that has been drawing the adventurous to its shores for centuries. One of Argentina's most noted anthropologists, author and photographer Dr. Daniel Rivademar recounts the region's fascinating history and describes its diverse animal and plant life in an expert, but easy- to-read style.

Bird watchers and anyone else interested in natural history will be fascinated with the book's images of Patagonia's unique flora and fauna - sea elephant colonies and pods of right whales, condors and many varieties of seabirds, monkey puzzle trees and petrified forests. Spectacular photographs of Patagonia's rich geography - from the huge caves that dot the coast to the majestic ice fields of the glacial mountains - will have you feeling ocean spray on your face and tasting the chilly mountain air.

The Wild Shores of Patagonia: The Valdes Peninsula & Punta Tombo
by Jasmine Rossi

"Jasmine Rossi's photographs of Patagonia's coastal wild animals and seascapes are both beautiful and shocking. She portrays its cycles of birth and death and of storm and calm with rare technical skill and a text that enlarges her photographic windows with unusual accuracy."

-William Conway, in the Foreword Patagonia, the vast remote region at the southernmost tip of South America, is one of the last truly wild places on this planet. The natural habitat of hundreds of wild species-from killer whales and elephant seals to penguins and albatrosses-it is one of the world's great showcases of wildlife. For two years, photojournalist Jasmine Rossi lived on the Valds Peninsula, the center of this coastal life zone, along with a handful of wildlife biologists, and she photographed the animals interacting in ways never before documented. Rossi's astonishing images and spine-tingling first-person accounts of her adventures provide a unique window on the life-and-death struggles faced daily on Patagonia's rugged shores and ferocious seas. JASMINE ROSSI is an independent wildlife photographer and nature writer living in New York City. WILLIAM CONWAY was for 40 years general director of the Wildlife Conservation Society (formerly the New York Zoological Society). He makes annual trips to Patagonia to photograph and study wildlife. 205 photographs in full color, 113/4 x 93/8"

Horse taming, round ups, cattle branding, plowing, everything for the reader to understand regional customs and the ways of working the land still practiced on a farm dating from the time of the country's independence. The photography is by one of the descendants of the founding family, Martin Gomez Alzaga while texts are by Socorro Gonzalez Guerrico. Between them they have produced a work not to be missed by local or international tourists.

Touring Argentina - Cordoba
by Leon Goldstein, Sonia Passio, Gonzalo Monterroso

In the series Touring Argentina, Editorial Bifronte bring to us Cordoba, which lies at the crossroads of the ancient and modern roads of Argentina where Ron Lovelace, a North American photographer who is enamored of Argentina, visited the central province of Cordoba. He took photographs of the city which was an important cultural, commercial and political center in the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries. Those buildings which survived the Viceroyalty, museums, streets and churches of the epoch stand in the middle of a modern, progressive city, the second largest in the country, all seen to advantage.

There are too, mountain scenery, dams - there are many in the region - buildings the Jesuits erected in the XVIIth century and which today are still performing their original purposes. Tourist areas where Tyrolean and central European houses offer excellent hotels, similarly good food and many opportunities for adventure tourism, water sports and camping by the many rivers and lakes. The photographs and the text make up a portable packet of all one saw on one's tour.

Touring Argentina: Tierra del Fuego Malvinas - Antartida
by Stefano Nicolini, Gonzalo Monterroso

In this book are covered three tourist destinations at the southern end of the world. For some it is the uttermost end, for others it is the beginning. Stefano Nicolini is an Italian photographer whose work covers especially the southern regions and the Antarctic. It reflects faithfully the area's unexpected landscapes. The world's southernmost city, Ushuaia, has all the magic of a pioneer settlement with a colorful mix of Nordic, Chilean and Argentine style buildings, is built on the Beagle Channel and lies south of the Andes mountain range which hereabouts starts to dip below the Atlantic. The Malvinas (Falklands) are disputed islands in the South Atlantic Ocean and are magnetic for their being little known. A small population of British descents turns its back on its nearest neighbors and have been involved in a long standing argument with Argentina which had been in possession of the islands until 1833 and still claims them. The imperturbable beauty of the white continent, the Antarctic, complete this photographic tour. Photographs of the wildlife wind up the subject. Bilingual texts describe the characteristics, history and main attractions of an off beat trip for special visitors.
