Idaho Discovered by Kirk Anderson (Photographer), Clarence Stilwill, Frank Roulard, Frank Rowland, Clarence Stilwell Idaho is a land of extremes, from desert moonscape to towering peaks that spawn a thousand rivers, from urban sprawl to places scarcely trod by humankind. The state is as backwoods as it gets where it touches the Canadian border, and in the capital city of Boise, as urbane as it wishes to be. It is, by and large, still pure, still innocent, still wild-full of wonder and the unexpected. Kirk Anderson has ventured into every corner of Idaho to discover this untamed country. His images portray the most captivating landscapes, using the light and color of Idaho's natural scenery. Anderson has been photographing Idaho since 1974, constantly observing the many moods of this dramatic landscape. His inspiration is found in the elements of nature, but his spectacular photography is the reward of his patience while waiting for light, seasons, and weather to work their magic. "Idaho is in a constant state of change: the seasons, the weather, the light-always the light. I was blessed with a beauty more intense than I had hoped for. Weather was always a dominant factor. Oftentimes I found myself in very moody, subtle situations that caused me to explore subjects from completely new perspectives; other times, things would happen so spectacularly fast that I would frantically photograph the phenomena and pray that I had captured them on film." -Kirk Anderson

The Idaho Cowboy: A Photographic Portrayal by David R. Stoecklein (Photographer), Jack Goddard (Designer)The Idaho Cowboy is an amazing photographic journey through the seasons of Idaho, and how a special breed of cowboys enjoys and endures this rugged yet beautiful state. Through Stoecklein's perceptive lens, and his excitement for his subject, we too can be with them -- feeling the spray of the water, or the dust kicked up by thundering hooves, or the sting of cold while trying to turn the lead horses, straining to outrun the leader with out approaching mount.

Palouse Country by George BedirianMore than one hundred fine duotone images in Palouse Country capture the unique natural and cultural landscapes of the Palouse hills of southeast Washington and neighboring Idaho. Sensitively rendered are the wheat fields, towns, grain elevators, barns, and the forested and grassy ridgelines that characterize this unforgettable locality. An introduction by the author provides a historical account of the changes that have swept the Palouse since the 19th century. It also discusses issues related to intensive farming and soil erosion and the demise of many of the area's barns. A regional classic since its release in 1987, this WSU Press edition of Palouse Country includes dozens of previously unpublished mages. George Bedirian’s enduring poetic scenes juxtapose the temporal with the timeless, the changing with the unchanged, in one of America’s exceptional places.
