I wrote this book not from an academic perspective but out of personal experience. I was involved with many different activities on the reservation, from powwows to health issues to education. The book came out of that lived history. It also addresses the issue of personal identity: who is Indian and what roles have the church and state played in altering Indian identity? The question of personal identity and self-esteem is critical for all of us, regardless of cultural heritage. I encourage you to send me your comments after reading this book.
