(These photos just in from Lies in Yoff, Senegal.)

Here is the sign that points to our Project. (Click any photo to see it full size)
The talibes are always ready to lend a hand. In fact, when they are living in the streets, much of the time that is how they get their food, by fetching and carrying in the market, or rushing in to help whenever they see someone is working at something. For them, being helpful is very adaptive behaviour, and it definitely contributes to their survival in the streets. It also makes them very nice to have around.
THE HOUSE It’s a house designed with the children in mind, they need to feel at ease and comfortable. They will be given 3 meals a day. They must take a shower each evening before they sleep. If the children get sick or hurt they must be treated before complications arise. To protect them from the cold, each child will be given a cover. Like every child, the talibés have a right live in a house where they feel at home and safe.
THE CLASS The children need to learn French, Wolof (the local language) and maths as this is essential for their future. They also have the possibility to take recreational courses like batik, djembe and drawing. On Saturdays we will have excursions and sport days. Below are some pictures of the classroom (nice wall decorations by Lies!)
Our own Home!

Here's some talibes getting used to their new home. (Now all we need is some furniture!)
People making it happen....
More to come soon!
THE VEGETABLE GARDEN The children are responsible for taking care of the vegetable garden. They have to cultivate the vegetables and to learn how to prepare them for their meals.
THE SHOP Part of the house will be allocated to a small shop where the children will sell the things they make in class like batik and drawings.
