We purchased the Spanish version of this book while in Colombia. It had been recommended to us by other Colombians who felt it was the best photographic representation thus far of their country. The content is spectacular in that it captures pristine landscapes, beautiful seascapes and candid events. The photo quality itself is slightly imperfect in sharpness and lighting (sometimes the faces are in shadows), but this is understandable with the use of the panoramic lens. I have mostly enjoyed the corresponding eloquent citations from authors describing their impressions of, feelings about or experiences in Colombia.

This 208-page book represents the discovery of a country, Colombia, captured in 250 superb color images by Jeremy Horner. This wandering, sensitive English photographer devoted several months to getting to know this land first hand. The dimension of this living country given in this book is a faithful reflection of what really goes on here. We see friendly, strong Colombia, picturesque and magical, many-faceted and photogenic The country is also projected through its geography-cities, towns, villages and, of course the immensity of the Colombian countryside-that this photographer inexhaustibly scrutinizes and that, after making it his own, returns it to us in lucid images of affection, humor, solidarity, and even a small dose of ironic complicity. The texts written by the Colombian author Gustavo Wilches-Chau are the perfect complement to the photographer's visual descriptions. They help us to further understand this land and its people whom we see talking and laughing, working and resting, living and dying.

This book is marvelous!
I was very touched and thrilled to find "El Abra" and remember my childhood days! this is the place where my Mother grew up and spend her vacations from school "El Abra" was our playground and belonged to the family for generations. Thank you so very much for the pleasure and the memories and tears..your book has brought to all of us. Que viva Colombia!

It would be an injustice to call this book a photographic essay. Instead I prefer to call Alta Colombia: Splendor of the Mountains, "a work of artistic brilliance." This book is a stunning and powerful portrayal of Colombia's mountains. Unfortunately few people outside the borders of Colombia are aware of the "summits and perpetual snows that crown the great mountain range of the Andes."

To that end, Cristóbal von Rothkirch and Juan Pablo Ruiz are knowledgable environmentalists and expert mountain climbers who mangage to capture breathtaking scenes from remote areas of Colombia. We have had this book on our coffee table for years. And it always manages to get rave reviews. With the holidays coming up soon...I think it is a great gift idea.

This book is not limited to mountains. It also includes impressive frames of giant condor's, other rare birds, rocks, fields, native indians,plants and much more. "Alta Colombia: Spendor of the Mountains" is a book filled with a wide display of colors, some are soft and while others are quite bold. It also boasts some great photographs of nature's intimate relationship with the sun. Colombia is blessed with great beauty. This book captures the majestry of Colombia's natural treasures.

Of all the lands in the world, Colombia is the richest in flowers. When the first astronauts sped through the heavens and beheld the Earth, two landmarks stood out: the Great wall of China and the unique green mantle that covers Colombia. In fact, this hugely fertile land houses over 50,000 species of flowers, out of a total of 250,000 throughout the world. The daily use of flowers and of their eloquent language permeates the Colombians' everyday life and their very death; it reaches all points, even in the endearing simplicity of a small garden. It is not surprising then that, also in the sphere of economics, flowers should have come to play an important role. Three decades ago, a small group of visionary entrepreneurs realized that the Bogota Savannah and certain regions of Antioquia were ideal sites for intensive floriculture, and they put that idea to work. At present Colombia is one of the world's leader flower-producing countries and one of the main exporters to the United States. Ninety percent of Colombia's entire flower production is for exportation. The quality of its products, its rigorous at meeting schedules, and the competitiveness of its prices have helped the Colombian flower industry to maintain its privileged position in international markets, competing and successfully against countries such as Holland and Japan. The flower industry has also helped to strengthen the Colombian economy in rural areas by maintaining a stable working population, thus helping to avoid migration to the cities.
