Albania Road Map/Albanie Carte Routiere probably the best general purpose map available, 28 February, 2001 Reviewer: (gilliangloyer@netscape.net) from Tirana, Albania I have been using the Ravenstein map since I first came to Albania in 1998. I now travel widely around the country and find it invaluable. Certain portions of the road infrastructure have been vastly improved in the last year (2000-2001), and the map is now a little out of date. In any event, all road classifications in the map should be taken with a pinch of salt; some of those indicated (in red) as "throughway" are particularly deceptive, in that they are mountainous and slow, and others marked (in yellow) as "important connecting road" are often better and faster, even though they involve more kilometres. Some connections marked as "secondary roads" are almost impassable, and some roads which I know to exist are not marked on the Ravenstein map at all. These problems are common to all the maps of Albania which I have seen, and local advice should be sought before embarking on any inter-urban journey, particularly long trips. However, the Ravenstein map is sufficiently detailed to enable one to plan travel for oneself and - usually more importantly for those who visit Albania - for participants in the activities which one is planning. It has a good index, attached to the map in booklet form, which aids reference before and during travel.Customer Reviews
